Trip Itinerary
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Distance: Approximately 4km
Habitat: Montane Forest, Moorland
Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi. Our team will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Naromoru Gate (2,400m), where we’ll complete park entry formalities. From here, we’ll drive further to Met Station (3,040m), the official starting point of your trek. The trail to Lake Hohnel is a steep but rewarding ascent through the lush montane forest and moorland of Mount Kenya National Park. Be prepared for unpredictable weather, including fog, rain, or sunshine, as we navigate this beautiful terrain. Upon arrival at Lake Hohnel, you’ll be greeted with a warm meal and hot beverages prepared by our support team. Overnight camping at Lake Hohnel.Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Distance: Approximately 8km
Habitat: Giant Heather and Lobelia
After breakfast, we’ll continue our ascent through the surreal landscape of giant heather and lobelia plants. The trail gradually gains elevation, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Today’s destination is American Camp, situated just below Point John—a popular rock-climbing spot often used as a preparatory climb for Point Nelion and Batian. The camp offers a perfect vantage point to admire the rugged beauty of Mount Kenya. Enjoy a hearty dinner and rest well as you prepare for the summit push the following day.Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert, Giant Heather, and Lobelia
We’ll begin the day with a pre-dawn start at 3:00 AM to summit Point Lenana (4,985m), the third-highest peak on Mount Kenya. The climb is challenging but achievable, and reaching the summit in time for sunrise is a truly magical experience. From the summit, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, glaciers, and the vast Kenyan landscape. After celebrating your achievement, we’ll descend to Lake Michaelson for a well-deserved brunch. For those who prefer not to summit, you can opt to enjoy a leisurely day exploring the lakeside or indulge in optional fishing activities (with prior permits from Kenya Wildlife Service). Overnight camping at Lake Michaelson.Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Distance: Approximately 12km
Habitat: Giant Heather, Lobelia, and Alpine Valleys
Today’s trek takes us through some of the most dramatic geological features of Mount Kenya. We’ll ascend from Lake Michaelson, navigating deep gorges and valleys, before arriving at the picturesque Lake Ellis. The trail offers stunning views of the mountain’s rugged terrain and unique flora. A picnic lunch will be served en route, and upon arrival at Lake Ellis, our support team will have the camp set up for your comfort. Enjoy dinner and a peaceful night under the stars.Hiking Time: 9-10 hours
Distance: Approximately 18km
Habitat: Moorland, Riverine
This is the longest day of the trek, but also one of the most rewarding. We’ll hike through the moorland, passing the scenic Mugi Hills and enjoying breathtaking views of the valleys below. The trail is a mix of ascents and descents, offering a diverse and engaging hiking experience. Lake Alice, the largest mountain lake on Mount Kenya, is our destination for the day. Covering 26 hectares, the lake is teeming with fish and surrounded by serene landscapes. Dinner and overnight camping at Lake Alice.Hiking Time: 2-3 hours
Distance: Approximately 4.5km
Habitat: Moorland, Riverine
After breakfast, we’ll hike to Lake Rutundu, a tranquil lake famous for its connection to Prince William, who proposed to Princess Catherine here. The trail offers stunning views of the Rutundu Plains and the surrounding ridges. We’ll continue to Kajiwe’s Camp, where you’ll spend your final night on the mountain. Enjoy a celebratory dinner and reflect on your incredible journey.Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Distance: Approximately 5km
Habitat: Moorland, Riverine, and Forest
On the final day, we’ll descend through the moorland and Hargenia Forest, enjoying the cool mountain air and occasional sightings of wildlife. The trail ends at Rutundu Road, where our vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Nairobi. You’ll arrive in Nairobi by 7:00 PM, filled with unforgettable memories and a sense of accomplishment.Relax & Rejuvenate
